Ever since my birth, I’ve been listening to and reading Mahatma Gandhi, the ‘Father of the Nation’
but noting his importance in my life is something new for me.
Starting from the incident of being thrown out of the Train in
Durban, South Africa, which later
led to the Passive Resistance Struggle. This was the first
scene where I came to know about
him and it caught my eyes ever since then. Being an outsider, he
understood the problems faced
by his fellow countrymen and used all of his wits to benefit the
needy, which of course, was in
the most peaceful way. A man with so much patience and tolerance
deserves the greatest
appreciation.
An inspirational story of his influence that I recall was his
eternal love and care for the
environment. A teacher from California, USA chained herself to
preserve a 400 years old Oak
tree that was about to be removed by the developers, but upon
the resistance from the lady,
hundreds of people stormed and successfully ensured that nature
to sustain. Her sayings on the
incident, “ I did all I could... I was there to the end. I practice nonviolent principles, Gandhi’s principles.” made me ponder how vast was his influence even in today’s world.
